AltoSignal / Setup guide

Setup guide

Ten minutes to your first page.

No installer on a server, no IT call and no new hardware. Install the app on the screens you have, answer three questions about your office, rename a few buttons, and page the next room.

Six steps, about ten minutes

From sign-up to the first page between two rooms.

  1. 01

    Start the free trial.

Sign up at altosignal.com/signup with your e-mail and a password. No credit card for the first 30 days, and nothing to install on a server.

  2. 02

    Count the screens.

One wherever a signal needs to be seen: each operatory or exam room, the front desk, sterilization, the lab. Four operatories plus the front desk and sterilization is six screens. They do not have to match, and you can add more later.

  3. 03

Install the app and sign in on each one.

Get it from the App Store, Google Play, the Amazon Appstore or the Microsoft Store, or download it for Mac or Linux. Sign in with the same login on every screen and give each device a name, like Op 2 or Front Desk.

  4. 04

    Answer three questions.

On a new account, the app asks what kind of office this is, how many rooms you have, and who gets paged. Tap Set up my office and it builds your buttons, room states, quick replies, patient and people lists, a floor plan of your rooms and a matching look, on every screen at once. Or type a sentence or two about your office instead, and the app proposes the whole setup for you to approve. See the three questions. Skipped it, or want to start over? Open the gear, then Setup, and on the Get started tab choose Replace under Starter buttons.

  5. 05

    Make it yours.

On the Buttons tab of Setup, tap a button to rename it: your doctors and staff in the Who column, the things you say in the What column, your rooms in the Where column. Changes reach every screen at once.

  6. 06

    Send a test page.

At the front desk, tap a doctor, then Patient Ready, then a room, then Send. The page appears on every screen, the doctor taps to acknowledge it, and the front desk sees that it was seen.

The three questions

What the app asks the first time it opens on a new account. Every answer can be changed later in Setup.

The first question, Welcome. What kind of office is this?, with buttons for Dental office, Eye care practice, Veterinary clinic, ENT practice, Medical office and six kinds of spa. Dental office is selected.
1. What kind of office is this?
The second question, How many exam rooms?, set to 4 with minus and plus buttons, and the note Plus Lobby, Prep 1, Sterilization, Front Desk.
2. How many rooms?
The third question, Who gets paged?, with the names Dr. Patel, Dr. Kim, Hygienist, Assistant and Front desk, an Add a person link, and the button Set up my office.
3. Who gets paged?

Rooms are numbered for you, like Exam 1 to Exam 4, next to the fixed places of your kind of office. Names can be people or roles, up to six to begin with.

What you will need

Nothing proprietary. Any tablet or computer from the last few years will do.

Hardware

The screens

  • +A tablet or screen for each room, on a wall mount or stand where the chair can see it
  • +Power within reach of every mount: the screens stay on all day
  • +The computer already at your front desk

Network

Your existing Wi-Fi

  • +No new network and no server in the office
  • +Check the signal in every room; operatories are the usual weak spot
  • +The apps also signal each other across your office network if the internet drops

After the first day

Optional, and each takes a few minutes.

  1. +

    Add channels.

Route pages so only the screens that should hear them light up, for example one channel per doctor or per floor. Main and Emergency always reach every screen.

  2. +

Give each person their own login.

Invite your team by e-mail and every page shows who sent it. Team logins, step by step.

  3. +

    Use the floor plan.

Take a number for each patient, see who is in which room, and let a reply of On My Way move the doctor on the plan. To draw it, take a picture of your fire escape plan or a sketch and choose From a photo, or start from Auto layout. Patient flow with AltoSignal.

Stuck on something? Type your question into the box at the top of Setup and the app answers from these guides. Prefer watching? The guides show each step in a clip under a minute.

Questions about setup

How long does setup take?

Under ten minutes for most offices. Sign up, install the app on each screen, answer three questions about your office, and rename any buttons you want to change. No installer on a server and no IT call.

Do we need new hardware or a special network?

No. AltoSignal runs on the phones, tablets and computers you already own, over your existing Wi-Fi.

What does the app ask the first time?

On a new account it asks three questions: what kind of office this is, how many rooms you have, and who gets paged. Your answers build the buttons, rooms, lists and a floor plan on every screen. Only an owner or admin sees the questions, and an account that already has its own buttons is never asked.

Can we start from a ready-made setup?

Yes. Setup has starter sets, on the Get started tab, for dental offices, medical and ENT practices, eye care practices, veterinary clinics and several kinds of spa. Replace loads the buttons, room states, quick replies, lists and a floor plan in one step.

Can we change everything afterwards?

Yes. Every button, room, state and channel can be renamed, added or removed in Setup, and the change reaches every screen at once.

30 days free on the screens you already own. No credit card.
